Five-Star Girls’ Getaway: How to Plan the Ultimate Luxe Weekend

It has been ages since I've been able to plan a getaway with my girlfriends. And while we're likely not going to get that grand beach house, Elin Hilderbrand's The Five-Star Weekend has me absolutely itching to plan a similar getaway with my favorite girls.

Even if we can't quite match the setting or the splurginess of a foodie influencer's five-star weekend, we can all get some great inspiration for being a superstar host for a girls' getaway. Here's how to plan your own top-notch girls' get-together—no drama required.

Vibe Check the Guest List

Just because you love all the gals doesn't mean that they all love each other. While the idea of inviting your best friend from every era of your life sounds great in theory, planning a full-on getaway with a crew of essentially strangers is a one-way ticket to drama. So check your guest list for any potential red flags before you send out those invites. Or best yet, keep it as low-drama as possible by choosing a group of gals that already get along, like your book club or your college roommates.

Create a (Loose) Itinerary

The best activities and restaurants likely will require advance booking—especially if you're hoping to score in-demand dinner reservations or spa treatments for a large group. Think about what everyone will love, and pad the schedule to leave plenty of room for downtime or sleeping in.

Consider creating zones of time where people can choose from a number of different activities, so outdoorsy types can indulge in a hike or paddleboarding, while others might opt for shopping, spa treatments, or an art class. And don't forget to leave open spots in the weekend for spontaneity, like a trip to a local diner or a casual outing.

For Food, Focus on Good Ingredients and Make-Ahead Prep

A smart meal plan features a lot of pre-made items and simple dishes that let local produce and ingredients shine. Think watermelon served with a sprinkle of lime zest, a classic charcuterie board, and fresh oysters on the half shell.

Making most of the meals and snacks grazing-style makes it easier to handle dietary restrictions—so you can offer gluten-free, vegan, or dairy-free options more easily. And if you're doing cocktails, think punches or drinks that can be made by the pitcher. You definitely don't want to be spending the evening manning the bar while everyone else is off having fun.

Give Yourself Time Off, Too

If you're hosting the whole event, you need time off, too. Make sure that at least a few of the meals are takeout or out on the town, so you only have to worry about perusing the menu. Don't be afraid to delegate tasks or let go of perfectionism—the goal is to enjoy the weekend just as much as your guests.

Send Them Home With a Treat

A thoughtful take-home gift can be a sweet reminder of your getaway. It doesn't have to be elaborate—a favourite local treat like homemade cookies, a jar of local honey, or small artisanal goods will be a lovely gesture. Personal touches show your guests that you've thought about them, and they'll remember the kindness long after the weekend is over.

Final Thoughts

Planning a five-star weekend with your girlfriends is about connection, relaxation, and creating lasting memories—not about perfection. Focus on the people, the laughter, and the shared experiences. With a thoughtful guest list, a flexible itinerary, delicious food, and a little time off for yourself, you'll host a getaway that feels truly stellar. So go ahead—start planning. Your perfect girls' weekend is closer than you think.

Hi Stacked, I have been following your articles and would appreciate it if you can help analyse our present home situation. My husband and I own a unit in Windermere and a 5-room flat at Yew Tee, which are both fully paid. We are in our late 50s: one is retired and the other is semi-retired.
